One of the best parts of being in Rittenhouse is that there is always something happening.
From brand-new shops to speakeasy Italian restaurants, something new is a given as the neighborhood continues to evolve, as evidenced by the growing number of multifamily developments happening. But new places aren’t only what makes Rittenhouse special: it’s the businesses, restaurants, bars, entertainment places, and more, that make this neighborhood a desirable place to live, eat, and play in.
We’re excited to share our new blog series Know Your Neighbor where we share our favorite local places that make Rittenhouse special.
Kicking off our new blog series? Devon, the restaurant nestled between the always-busy Parc and always boisterous Rouge on 18th Street. It’s a popular draw for Rittenhouse locals, seeking a seafood-forward menu, delicious drinks, and happy hour with great seating directly on the Square.
Immediately upon entering you can feel the chill, comfortable vibes while passing fridge after fridge of delicious-looking wines (what can we say, we’re suckers for a good red). Then the winding corridor ends in a large room with the most beautiful tiled ceiling.
The elegant bar – surrounded by a beautiful marble countertop and a fascinating pendant lamp – is front and center in the main room. The bar area also has TVs strategically placed around the area, ensuring you’ll never miss a Phillies/76ers/Eagles game. Also in the bar area? One of the best happy hours in the area that happens on weekdays AND Saturdays!
CRAZY fact: Back in the day this venue was a Houlihans.
In addition to a robust slate of wines, Devon is continually refreshing their cocktail options with seasonally fresh ingredients. BTW, if you’re looking for fun things to do this summer, Devon also hosts monthly events. Upcoming ones include a 4-course dinner with wine pairing, a rose soiree, even an interactive cocktail-making class.
Oh, yeah – that’s their crazy smoked old-fashioned. Did we mention there’s cocktail theater? Yes, there is cocktail theatre, but only the best kind.
The restaurant is spacious and tables are NOT bumping against each other, which makes Devon an excellent choice for intimate gatherings without strangers (noticeably) eavesdropping.
What elevates Devon more than being just a plain restaurant beyond the fabulous tiled ceiling, in our opinion, are the little flourishes and details, such as their lighting fixtures and interesting art.
Under the tutelage of Executive Chef Christopher Feraudo the food and beverage programs continue to build on an already stellar menu. New to the menu: Experiential dinner options that’s sure to wow guests, like “Hot Rocks” aka table-cooked Wagyu steak and a seafood tower that is (literally) giving off ice-cold vibes.
You can join the locals and make a reservation on their site or drop in for happy hour on weekdays from 4:30p to 7p (!!), and even on Saturdays from 4:30p to 6p. After all, there is plenty of room at that gorgeous marbled bar.
