It Doesn’t Get Sweeter Than This: Malai, Brooklyn’s Own Ice Cream Gem, Is Coming To Town
The brand known for its “blend of cream & culture” will open up THIS spring, in the former David David art gallery on 260 S 18th St.
SOOOO many good things are happening in Philly right now, and this one looks especially sweet (NO pun intended): Malai, a Brooklyn-based ice cream gem, is coming to town!
The Philadelphia Inquirer shared this exciting scoop, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Malai will be in a GREAT location: right next to Starbucks on 18th in the former David David art gallery, fitting for what looks like a very elegant ice cream parlor, and unique in the fact that they will have seating (!!)
This news is also great on SO many levels: It’s unique as it offers Indian-inspired flavors, it’s an ice cream shop right by the Square, and it’s great to see Philly continue to stretch its culinary comfort. We also heard Malai will have soft serve, which may give 1-900-ice-cream a run for its money. Just sayin.
We love that Malai will be more than just a new place to grab dessert: it’s a sign of Philly’s growing reputation as a food lover’s paradise. We asked Malai’s Founder and CEO Pooja Bavishi about why she chose Philly as its 2nd location outside of NY:
“I’m thrilled for Malai to come to Philly! Having spent part of my childhood in the suburbs, I have a personal connection to the area. What’s even more exciting is that we know a big part of our fan base is here, thanks to our nationwide shipping. We can’t wait to be a part of the city’s vibrant food scene!”
A huge shoutout to fellow Rambler @leasedlikely for helping to facilitate this exciting addition to the city, and to all the Philadelphians who have been ordering Malai via Goldbelly. Philly’s dessert game just leveled up, and we’re here for it!
ETA for opening is spring and we’re sending good vibes to ensure construction stays on track. To stay looped in for the official opening date, follow Malai on their Insta.
