Scoop & Crumble: Weckerly’s Brings Its Iconic Ice Cream Sandwiches & More Sweet Treats To Rittenhouse
Long one of Fishtown’s favorite ice cream shops, Weckerly slides into a fantastic location with something delicious for everyone.
After a long winter and cold spring we are FINALLY getting our treats for being patient as Weckerly’s arrives in Rittenhouse
The beloved micro-creamery that transformed its Fishtown storefront into a temple dedicated to artisanal dairy worship has evolved (rightfully so, in our opinion) into a mini ice cream empire with additional sweet treats added to the mix. Luckily, Rittenhouse was the 3rd stop, right after KoP, sliding into the space that was formerly furniture and home decor shop 1600 Spruce.
Unlike many food businesses that sacrifice quality at the altar of expansion, Weckerly’s owner Cristina Torres shared that the brand remains steadfastly committed to its small-batch philosophy. Every component—from the custard base to the mix-ins—is still made from scratch at their Northeast Philadelphia production kitchen.
And the Rittenhouse location represents more than just a new address for their delicious ice cream sandwiches, such as a coffee program featuring Brandywine Coffee Roasters (because what goes better with ice cream than caffeine?)
They’re also vegan flavors for the dairy-averse, soft serve for us ice cream connoisseur, and scoops, scoops, and more scoops: 24 flavors including the vegan options and even sorbet.
We also geeked out meeting Cristina who was brainstorming how long they should stay open. Considering their fantastic location on the corner of 16th and Spruce, literally right next to Super Folie, and near Enswell, The Kimmel Center, and Garage Bar, we’re optimistic that they will pick the best hours. And we’re going to have to do some in-depth research to see if wine + ice cream pair as well as we think it will (spoiler: it’s going to be awesome).
