Cone Appetit: Fishtown Ice Cream Darling Weckerly’s Is Expanding To Rittenhouse
The neighborhood will be gaining a local and popular brand known for its fun ice cream sandwiches and, yes, cones.
You screamed, we all screamed when we heard that Weckerly’s was coming to Rittenhouse.
We, along with countless others, have made the trip to the long-local Fishtown ice cream shop that’s known for delicious and innovative ice cream sandwich flavors, among other things. So the news that they were coming to Rittenhouse, and potentially to 1600 Spruce which was the home to the home decor and furniture shop 1600 Spruce.
Weckerly’s went in front of the Philadelphia Art Commission’s Sign and Streetery Committee on Oct. 30 to receive approval for signs outside of the ground-floor commercial space at 1600 Spruce St., but Torres said that Weckerly’s has not finalized a location.
This is super exciting because it’s right next to wine bar Superfolie. We would need to conduct in-depth research to see if wine + ice cream is a match made in heaven, since they’re pretty damn good on their own.
And file this under things we learned: We didn’t realize the original owners had sold their business to a Weckerly’s superfan, Cristina Torres, who lived nearby and was kind enough to respond when we asked her for an opening ETA:
Expanding to Rittenhouse feels like the natural next step for Weckerly’s. With our original Fishtown scoop shop and our second King of Prussia location, Rittenhouse is the perfect spot to bridge the gap between the two. I used to work in Center City and live in Graduate Hospital, so this neighborhood means a lot to me. Our ice cream is truly special, and I can’t wait to share it with even more of the Philly community!
Regardless of where they end up we know Weckerly’s will fit in perfectly in Rittenhouse.
